A Kitchen Rejuvination

General0 comments

Here are some pictures of a recent job we did for some dear friends of ours.  Both the granite and the natural stone back splash are from our showroom.

These photos are a perfect example of the transformation process.  The kitchen already was very nice and classic and the addition of granite and tile brought this area to whole new level.   Our favorite saying may be cliche but, stone truly transform your home from ordinary to extraordinary!!!!

What Drives Pricing?

General0 comments

Natural stone is a gift from nature and there are several different factors that drive pricing and why some stones are considerably more costly than others.

Quarry inventories, rate of currency, shipping (container ships) supply and demand, and weather conditions are the main components of pricing stone.  Weather conditions may come as a surprise but, many quarries are underwater for several months out of the year.   For example, Blue Bahia is one of the most expensive granites and the main reason is  because it comes from Brazil which, has a long rainy season and the quarry is in water.

Some other facts that effect granite and marble pricing are the inventory of the quarries.  Inventories are low right now do to the turn around in the world economy.  Wholesale suppliers are going to the quarries and buying up inventories leaving supplies low and selections sparse.  For a while, quarries were having a hard time keeping up with demand but, currently there has been an increase in production.

Customers often ask about commercial grade granite which, is easily available and cost less.  Kowalski Granite Center does not work with these granites – the slabs have pits, fissures, and a dull polish.  Instead, we offer monthly specials specials, package deals and remnants.

Even though natural stone cost a little more than most man made countertops,  granite adds instant value to your home and it can literally last a lifetime.  Beauty and brawn……  who can ask for anything more?

Kowalski Granite Center proudly serves all of West Michigan and Northern Michigan including Pentwater, Manistee, Ludington and Traverse City.  We always offer free estimates and are happy to price match!
